This particular wheel layout with 4 steered wheels at the front is known as a "chinese six"

A lot of these seem to be coming up for sale in magazine classifieds.

The full-size version of Lady Penelope's Rolls-Royce, FAB 1, was built on one of these chassis.

Logical when you give it some thought. Thank you for that bit of info, I for one had no idea.

Have you watched The Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour?

Added by Fazer9553 on 08 December 2010.
No Beatles not my scene, not sure if that makes me a bit unusual really. :-D

Ha Ha you won't draw me on that . . .
But it might be worth a quick look at the film if only for the VAL :)

Prepare to be amazed.
I have just uploaded a photo of my Beatles Magical Mystery Tour bus to transport-models. Despite what I have written about the steering the front wheels, all 4, do move.
It is in mint condition so is the box so I am waiting for the time when it is worth hundreds, if not thousands, of £'s. Well I can dream can't I?
I have probably had it for 30 years or more?
So am I a collector or can you think of another name? Publishable of course.

Looks great!

Sad John. Ha ha, I have plenty here, I don't buy moels often anymore, unless they are either AEC or Land Rover related.
Fazer, remember now I have watched the best VAL film of all time, :-D The Italian Job.
Regards to you both.

This VAL is powered by a Leyland 400 engine, the only Bedford passenger chassis to use this power unit. From 1966ish VALs used the Bedford 466 70 Series engine. The VALwas the only Bedford 3- axle bus/coach chassis. The VAL14 (Leyland) in 'The Italian Job' was I understand somewhat unusual as it featured a Harrington body.
