Commer Mini Coach

I'm unsure if the designation J2 can be used for this little coach.

I used to drive this coach for a living when working for Bexleyheath transport, which if my memory serves me right would have been in the late seventies early eighties

It must be quite a rare thing, as I dont recall seeing another.

The style of the body work is quite like that used on the old commer Mr softey ice cream vans from the 60's even the orange rooflights and front screens are the same

I'm sure the owner I was talking to said he just lives at Stanley near metro centre not far from Newcastle. I would have liked to have had a look in side at the interior how it was done, maybe next time I go to metro centre or other places and if there will have look hope fully. I like the j2 Bedford Embassy the best of all of the Plaxtons coaches. I would love to own one, my dad used to work and make them at Plaxtons a lot of years ago.

I think strictly speaking this is a KARRIER. I believe it was new to Abbotts of Blackpool - they had several coaches with registrations PFR7x7.

yes you r right it is a karrier I just said I like the bedford j2 plaxton embassy best of all

Added by Roland on 29 May 2011.
Yes it's a commer karrier we've also one like this you can see it on our page

I owned this coach for several years in the 1990s before passing it on so that someone else could enjoy it. I bought it from R&I coaches of West London. In my ownership it was finished in grey and red (Abbott’s colours?) with R&I signwriting that I added. Commer or Karrier was always an uncertainty. From memory, the badge on the front and the log book said Commer but the manufacturer’s plate on the dashboard was Karrier. Of course you cannot trust the log book – my 1959 Reliance is shown as a ‘Leyland AEC’ on the registration document.

Your AEC log book should only show AEC, as in 1959 AEC had nothing to do with Leyland, that failed marriage didn't take place until 1962.

The owner has got o couple more coaches. I saw the owner at the skipton bus rally and he was driving an albion nimbus green one. I think it was an ex gurnsey coach.

Andrew Wilson – yes, I know. I imagine something went wrong at DVLA when the V5s were computerised.

Not seen this one for sometime I don't think, I presume he is still using it?

Added by Andrew Wright on 27 November 2014.
Andrew Wright - sincere apologies; I don't know where the 'Wilson' came from. Yet one more senior moment!
